Blog #6 Burritos

Over the weekend, I had Chipotle Mexican grill. This was my first time ever that I had this, but I thought it was worth it. It was really yummy and delicious. They served tacos, burritos, and etc. and they also had different kinds of meat or veggies selection. At the restaurant, I ordered a carnitas burrito. I thought that it was really cool that they made the food in front of you because it allowed you to choose whatever it is that you wanted to put in it.

There are many ways to prepare burritos. As far as I know, some places but different ingredients in their burritos. There are also some places that sells theirs much larger than others. I guess when it comes to making a burrito, it comes with a person’s own creativity and the way that they want to prepare it. Personally, some of the places that I like to buy my burritos are at Pepe’s and at Mexican trucks.

Blog #5 Blonde Brownies

A type of dessert that I really like making are blonde brownies. There's a lot of steps to prepare them, but they taste really delicious and worth the wait. These aren't the regular brownies that everyone usually talks about. They don't have that same chocolatey taste as most brownies do. This dessert is in between a cookie and a brownie. It is almost like having a cookie made in a brownie form.

One recipe that I found for blonde brownies are at this website http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/toll-house-blonde-brownies/Detail.aspx. I encourage people to try this because it tastes and smells so good when it's done. This shouldn't take long to prepare. While baking these a couple times, I found that making these brownies with nuts is really good also. They helps to give that contrast between that strong chocolate taste and having something else to balance it out also.

Rice in Different Cultures

In all cultures, we all use the same type of ingredients, but for different ways that is needed to prepare the meal. For example, we all use meat, such as pork and beef, in order to prepare a certain meal, but we all do not prepare and cook the meat exactly the same. It is interesting to see the uses of many of the ingredients that we all may be accustomed to in other ways. Plus, it never hurts to try new things and to go experiment with it. In particular, we are all use to eating rice.

For most cultures, there is rice involved in cooking. Rice is something that is easy to make and is also prepared in many different ways. In Japanese culture, rice can be made to eat with dishes, but it can also be prepared in the dish, such as sushi. Another way to eat rice is with dishes that involve meat, which is one way to eat rice in Filipino culture. One example is eating rice with adobo, which is a dish that has meat marinated in ingredients, like vinegar, soy sauce, and other things. Another way to eat rice is to cook it fried. We often see this in Chinese food in which they offer rice cooked with meat and vegetables. As you can see there are many ways to eat and prepare rice, which is a good way to go out and experience different cultures.

Dishes in Other Cultures

Menudo in Mexican Culture
Menudo in Filipino Culture

In many different cultures, there might be a common name that all cultures may share. For example, in food, menudo is a kind of dish that is shared with the Mexican and Filipino culture, but they tend to mean different things. Other times, there might be a common term that might mean the same for all cultures. For example, there is the word coche, which refers to a car in both the Mexican and Filipino, or Tagalog, languages. In my first example, the dish menudo has a difference in both Spanish and Filipino cultures. I learned that in Spanish, the word menudo refers to the meat that is in the soup for the menudo. In Filipino culture, menudo is not a type of soup at all, but it is a dish that consists of meat. It has vegetables in it, like potatoes or tomatoes, and it is made in this sauce that is kind of like a tomato based sauce. It is usually served over rice.

Although different words that might be used in both cultures can mean different things, food is the same. It is also something that can taste delicious depending on what you ilke or the feel of your taste buds. In some cultures, it is often common to eat everything of the animal. In America, we usually do not see that or when people actually do refer to it, we often think that it is nasty. In my opinion, it is good to go out and explore the different kinds of dishes there are in each culture. You might be able to learn something about yourself and become more open-minded about different ideas.
